* NOTE: avoid the larabars with chocolate chips, as the chocolate chips may contain added sugar. The ones with fresh fruit or nuts are okay – however it’s up to you to watch your carbs as fruits contain carbs.

I’m so excited to try this. I love my sweets and has been my main diet disaster. Thank you for sharing. I can’t wait to brag about my results.

What Larabar are you buying that does not contain sugar????
The sugar count in Larabars is all natural from the fruit. Most other types of bars contain added sugar, these don’t. So for a quick snack, they are fine to have since they contain no added sugar. If you’d prefer to have a non-sweet snack, have some raw veggies.
I feel like Larabars have a lot of sugar. Is there a reason you specify them in this meal plan?

What about ‘diet soda’? Is it permissible?
I’d skip diet soda. For one, it’s super sweet and this only causes major sugar cravings. But secondly, it’s so full of junky ingredients, I’d avoid it just for that.
Do the chocolate chips in Lara bars have sugar in them?
Hey Jennifer, thanks for asking this question. I just added a note to the post about this. I think it’s possible they do, so skip the ones with chocolate chips for this sugar free detox diet.
Hi I am looking to give this 1 week sugar free a go. I am a vegitarian and do not eat fish or eggs can you suggest alternative to these in the diet
Hi there, I’d suggest tofu or tempeh as protein source for you. Let me know how it goes for you.
I don’t want to eat to much sugar .but i want to start eating brakfast but evetything i love to eat has sugar in it so whats good for brakfast that does not have sugar in it i know i like eggs grits sauage but i get tired eating just that i want something else but what?
Hi Nancy, the meal plan above gives some examples of ways to cook eggs with veggies rather than sausage. But also you can have fruit! Make smoothies, low sugar fruits are best like citrus or berries or tart apples. Make a green smoothie with cucumber, celery and spinach, add an apple if you want. The fruit has sugars, but it’s natural sugar. The sugar you should avoid is added sugars to food. I wish you luck. Hope this is helpful.
Can you use Splenda or Stevia to put in your ice tea?
Yes! Stevia is best. 🙂
Can I use equal in my coffee
Stevia is a better choice since it’s more natural. It’s best to use nothing though.
Every time I try to cut sugar out of my diet, I get hypoglycemic. My body starts to shake, I start sweating profusely and I can’t focus. I hate feeling like this and feel like I am going to pass out. So I grab anything that has sugar to make my symptoms go away. I just ate a handful of candy to feel better. But there goes my sugar free day. How can I avoid this from happening?
It’s about consuming the good stuff and skipping the added sugars/bad stuff. So candy definitely isn’t a good choice when this happens to you. Fruit is a good choice. Or some fresh juice (that doesn’t have added sugar). As you can see on our sugar free plan, fruit is okay to have since it’s natural sugar. Going “sugar free” is about skipping the added sugars that most food has. We are bombarded by sugars in our food, it’s pretty scary. Hope this is helpful. You might want to also talk to your doctor about this as it could be some health issue they would be more familiar with than me.
Jane, try increasing your protein! It has helped me with my Hypoglycemia. Also eat more smaller meals to help with maintaining sugar levels. I always have nuts with me to help me get through the day, but also keep mints just in case I start to drop suddenly. I hope this helps.
Hi Jane,
I’m hypoglycemic also and the only regimen that work for me was Dr. Ian Smith “super shred” for not eating or depending on candy during the low spells. It helps keep the insulin regulated. Diets are no good for hypoglycemics.
Can u suggest a sugarless PB and almond butter?
Hi Court, I buy my peanut butter at trader joes usually, It’s just the natural peanut butter, no sugar added. You can read the labels and see usually just peanuts and salt. As for almond butter, I think Trader joes has one that has no sugar added also. Another brand I buy is Laura Scudders – no sugar added. Avoid the popular grocery store brands like Jiff, Skippy, etc – these will usually contain sugar. Just always read labels!
Agave can. I. use?
No, I would not use Agave if you’re trying to go sugar-free.
Is it ok to drink infused water with fresh mint and strawberries or lemon and mint or Jimaica while doing the detox?
Yes, this should be fine. As long as it’s just fruits/herbs you’re using that’s not a problem.
How many calories is this meal plan? It seems really low
Hi Anita, I don’t have a calorie count on it at this time. However, as noted on the bottom you can eat as many snacks as you’d like, so if you feel like you’re still hungry or you need more calories, eat up!
Could you give an example of what you use in your “green smoothie”?
Hi Emily,
There is a link below the infographic under “1 week sugar free diet plan notes” – but here it is too: How to make a green smoothie
Hi. Can you eat Kind bars on this diet? They have 5 grams of sugar nut 6 grams of fibre. I thought I read once that if the fibre count was higher than the sugar count than it was alright to have. Is this the case with this meal plan?
Thank you.
If there is SUGAR listed in the ingredients, then don’t have it on the sugar detox. I looked up ingredients for one of the kind bars (dark chocolate nuts and sea salt) and that one had SUGAR in the ingredients.
I am allergic to raw uncooked tomato and bananas. Any suggestions for a substitute.
Any veggie or fruit is fine as a sub for those.
Why no meat? It does not contain sugar.
There is meat in this meal plan – look closely. Even on day 1 there is chicken listed under the dinner. I also see tuna and salmon in there.
Can we have yogurt on this plan??
Seek out yogurts with low added sugars or better yet – zero added sugars. Plain yogurt is best and you can sweeten it with fresh fruit or stevia.
Is honey acceptable?
The problem is it’s high in “sugars” or carbs. I’d skip it if you’re doing a sugar detox. Use stevia as a sweetener. BUT make sure the stevia you buy doesn’t have sugar in the ingredients. I’ve found some do and others don’t. So always read labels.
I like it, but way too much egg in the diet. I eat regularly and need to diet, but there is no way I have that much egg in a week – I would just make substitutions in the plan. I think protein is important to have with most meals.
I want to ask about Sweet Potato and Lima Bean Soup is safe for adiabatic patients.
I suggest asking your doctor if these foods are good for you and your diet.
Can I use honey instead of sugar in to coffee or tea.
No – honey contains sugars. Instead use stevia, monk fruit, erythritol or xylitol. — check out this guide: https://healthyhappysmart.com/keto-sweetener-guide/
I am just going to ask that question too. Thanks for sharing the link for sweetener guide.
I want to track my food each day, can you recommend an app? I know macros should be tracked and want to be sure I am eating the right foods and amount of fats/carbs/protein each day.
We suggest Cronometer
It’s honestly the most precise tracker out there. Good luck!
I want to try this, but I absolutely HATE eggs in just about every shape and form. What would you recommend as a substitute?
Just skip eggs – maybe have tofu in its place (crumbled) because it’s a very similar texture, but if texture is your problem with eggs, then find a different kind of breakfast that works for you. More proteins, more veggies. Get creative with your meals to fit your needs.
Hello,
Is there a shopping list that goes with the free plan?
sorry, we don’t have one at this time. Thanks for the feedback though!
What is in the tuna salad lettuce wrap? Just tuna and lettuce?
Hi Tia,
Yes, thanks for your question.
Thank you for taking the time to share. I cut out junk food from my diet and I now consume whole foods that are low in carbohydrate and I am so excited! The results are amazing, especially for my blood sugar and blood pressure. Thank you.
